26.wiki: four design directions

26.wiki is the public AI Visibility Index: by city and field, once a month. Each direction below has a ranking page and a person page. All names, practices and companies are invented. The ranking pages have a “中文” switch that swaps in a sample Beijing AI-founders list.

A · Tally Pad

One-line concept

An engineering computation pad. We asked the same question n times; every time AI said your name, a pencil stroke.

Signature element

k of n drawn as hand tally marks (four bars and a slash in English, the five strokes of 正 in Chinese). The strokes draw themselves once on load.

Material
Green engineering grid paper, graphite pencil, yellow highlighter
Colour
Pad green #e8f0e4 · graphite #2a2d2a · highlighter #f3e14f (claimed only) · red pencil (drops only)
Layout
Question on the left; the top tier tallied large beside the drawing title block; ledger rows with the tier written down the margin

Referenced, and what we tookFrom cloro and 5W: breadcrumb, a one-line “what this ranks” with the not-an-endorsement line, CSV up top, a stats strip, the source as a “most cited via” subline under each name. From Forbes, Castle Connolly and Doximity: person page order of key number, checks, quotes, history and index appearances, sources, facts (NPI, other spellings), similar dentists, claim.

B · Assay Plate

One-line concept

A 96-well lab plate. Each well is one question asked; the well takes the dye when your name comes back.

Signature element

Every row is a strip of wells, 10 per engine; the filled ones are the times you were named. The hero is the top tier's own plate, tilted on the bench. The dye drops in as each plate scrolls into view.

Material
Frosted polystyrene plate with a notched corner, on a pale mint lab bench
Colour
Bench #dfeeea · plate #f7fafa · dye magenta #d43d6f (named only) · amber tape (claimed)
Layout
Title left with the plate tilted on the right; below, every lane laid flat on one plate surface, ruled off by tier

Referenced, and what we tookSame structure as A, from cloro and 5W (name subline, count before engine breakdown, stats, method with definitions and limits) and from Forbes, Castle Connolly and Doximity for the person page order.

C · Star Atlas

One-line concept

A light-printed star atlas. The more often AI names you, the brighter your star.

Signature element

Each person is a star with one diffraction spike per engine (four in English, three in Chinese). Core size is k of n; spike length is how often that engine named you. Claimed stars get a gold ring. The spikes grow once on load. The legend sits on the first screen.

Material
Cool white star-chart paper, curved RA/Dec grid, faint milky-way wash
Colour
Chart #f5f8fb · ink #121a2b · antique gold #a98234 (rings and hairlines only)
Layout
Legend column plus full-width sky chart (tiers as brightness bands), then the catalogue, with row height set by magnitude

Referenced, and what we tookSame structure as A, from cloro and 5W. The person page follows Forbes, Castle Connolly and Doximity in order, with a finder chart for the four checks and a light curve for tier history.

D · Register (reference type)

One-line concept

Almost no metaphor: laid out the way established lists and profiles are, so it reads as an index someone could cite.

Signature element

The likely-range bar. Every row shows its count and 95% range on one shared axis, so you can see the overlap that puts people in the same tier with no order.

Material
Stone-grey register paper with a faint ruled texture
Colour
Stone paper #f3f4f1 · ink #15181c · oxblood #7d1d2c (tier rules and the count dot only)
Layout
Masthead with dateline and downloads beside the top tier’s range bars, enlarged; then one full-width table grouped by tier

Referenced, and what we tookRanking: Forbes list pages (title, dateline, intro, then the full table), cloro (stats strip, “most cited via”, per-engine columns, where AI looks), 5W (version note, k/n with a 95% interval, downloads up top, definitions and limits). Person: Forbes profile (key-figure box, list appearances, stats block, related people), Castle Connolly (credential, specialty, NPI as a plain fact), Doximity (claim prompt, other spellings, similar doctors nearby). Forbes real-time billionaires wouldn’t open (403).

Sample data. No real people, practices, companies or NPI numbers.
